Weatherization Technician

This FREE, 5-week training program from Community Action Pioneer Valley (CAPV) will prepare you for employment in the weatherization industry.  The course includes training, certification, individual support, and mentorship for a job as a weatherization technician. After certification, participants will be hired by one of CAPV’s partner contractors for full-time employment.

This program includes training and certification in the following three areas: 1) entry-level Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA-10) and Confined Spaces; 2) Building Science Principles; and 3) Lead-based Paint Renovation, Repair, & Painting as governed by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Massachusetts (MA) state regulations (Lead EPA/MA).

Your days will include hands-on learning opportunities with real weatherization tools and equipment, hands-on and online simulations, lectures, and discussions with your class.

Once you have completed the 5-week training, you will transition to paid on-the-job training and employment. There is an additional year of follow-up and support built into the program, during which participants will meet monthly with mentors and their cohort for questions and support.

The weatherization program is a collaboration between Community Action Pioneer Valley and Greenfield Community College. This program is possible due to funding from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), a state economic development agency dedicated to accelerating the growth of the clean energy sectors critical to meeting the Commonwealth’s climate goals. MassCEC Workforce Development supports a diverse and talented clean energy workforce by funding a dynamic network of community-based organizations, labor, training providers, business support organizations, schools and employers committed to a sustainable future for all.

In order to be eligible for free training, you must:

• be at least 18 years old
• be authorized to work in the US
• be fully committed to completing all classes
• have the ability to lift over 20 lbs.
• be ready to work directly after program completion

People of historically marginalized communities, justice impacted, unemployed, or underemployed citizens are especially encouraged to apply.

Students who complete this program will gain employment in an entry-level position as an Weatherization Technician or an Insulation Installer.
