Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide Training Program

OverviewPre-RequisitesOutcomesCredentials

Work with people and make a difference! Start your healthcare career with GCC! This 8-week in-person training program is ideal for entry-level job seekers and speakers of other languages who are interested in entering into the healthcare field.

This program meets in-person daily Monday-Friday from 9 a.m-2:30 p.m. and 100% attendance is required. Additionally, students must attend the program orientation.

This combined 200-hour training prepares you for two certificates! Learn all the skills required to succeed as a direct care worker in a friendly, adult-centered environment. All students will participate in a required clinical experience prior to graduating.

Nursing Assistant/Nurse Aide Training: Massachusetts law requires that anyone planning to work as a nursing assistant in a long term care facility complete an approved training program and pass a state competency exam. The state testing fee is included in tuition. All students who successfully pass this course are qualified to take the MA Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation.

Home Health Aide (HHA) Training: In Massachusetts, anyone planning to work for a state approved Home Health Agency must have their HHA certificate. All students who successfully pass this course will receive their HHA certificate.

Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • Intermediate-Level English Skills
  • Able to pass CORI background check
  • Must comply with immunization requirements
  • Must be ready to work in healthcare upon completion of the program
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Participation in this program is dependent on the results of a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check. For more information regarding CORI checks for Workforce Development programs, visit this page.

Review the federal Nondiscrimination Statement here.

Speakers of other languages are required to take an ESOL Accuplacer exam and must demonstrate intermediate-level English language skills or higher.

Speakers of other languages are required to complete GCC’s five-week ESOL on-ramp prior to starting the program.

Graduates of GCC’s CNA/HHA Program work as direct care providers in a home setting or at a facility, such as an assisted living facility or in a hospital. These highly in-demand jobs offer a starting wage of $19 – $22 per hour, and they are often the first step in a healthcare career.

Learners who successfully complete this program will earn a Home Health Aide Certificate and a Nursing Assistant Certificate of Completion, which meets the educational/clinical hours eligibility requirement to take the Massachusetts state exam to earn a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential. Successful completion also enables graduates to receive:

  • Home Health Aide (HHA) Certificate
  • American Heart Association First Aid Certification
  • American Heart Association CPR Certification
