Child Behavior and Development: Conception to Age 8

Introduces and examines the major theories and concepts of child behavior and development from conception to age 8. Coursework explores multiple influences on behavior and development including family, culture, and environment. Students discuss and define the role of relationships, play, and technology in interpreting and supporting positive child behavior and development.

Students must complete 2 hours of field observation in an early education and care program approved by the program coordinator.

Special Requirement: Students provide their own transportation.

Prereq: ENG 090 and ENG 094, or instructor permission. (Email train@gcc.mass.edu to secure instructor permission.)

This course fulfills a key requirement towards earning an initial certification in early childhood education from the Department of Early Education and Care. Successfully completing this course may allow you to gain employment in an early childcare setting. With continued employment experience and additional coursework you can gain higher levels of certification.
