American Canoe Association (ACA) Professional Certification – Upgrade Module
This American Canoe Association (ACA) instructor course can be used as an upgrade from a lower level ACA course or certification, or this could be considered continued education for a current ACA instructor. Students will participate in Advanced Swift Water Rescue training. Students will participate in a regional field trip to an area waterway.
Special requirements: This course involves moderate to high physical activity, immersion in cold water, and the ability to swim in a river current and be active and in the outdoors for a full day in a remote, forested environment. All students must submit the OLP Health History and Physical Examination Attestation Form, completed and signed by a physician, verifying medical clearance for full participation. Students assume any travel and permit/pass costs associated with field trips.
Supplies that students must bring/provide: Students must wear clothing suitable to the environment. Drysuits are highly recommended and need to be purchased or rented from an outside source in advance. Wetsuits can also be used and also need to be purchased/rented from an outside source. Water ready non-cotton clothing including wool socks, water shoes, gloves, wicking and insulating layers should also be brought. Lunch is not provided and needs to be brought. Students must also bring any personal items including water bottles, sunscreen, and any necessary medications to class.
Students must provide documented proof of an existing American Canoe Association level 1-3 tandem/solo canoe certification, in good standing.
